Greg Travis Kicks Off City Council

District G Candidacy

Calls for bold, effective leadership to address city challenges

June 18, 2015 – Today District G resident, property, and business owner Greg Travis announced his candidacy for Houston City Council District G to an overflow crowd of neighbors, community leaders, and concerned citizens ready to elect a bold, effective leader equipped to make a difference at City Hall.

“I’m ready to be a part of solutions to our city’s challenges, not sit on the sidelines while potholes and budget holes grow,” Travis told a crowd of enthusiastic attendees.  “Like you, I’m concerned about the health of our city’s infrastructure, the mounting debt and pension financing, threats to public safety, challenges to the integrity of our neighborhoods, and political cronyism that impedes solutions to these challenges while damaging public trust.  This November, let’s do the unexpected and elect leaders to City Hall who are bold enough and effective enough to make a real difference.”

In his kickoff announcement, Travis called on the City of Houston to set the right priorities – providing reliable infrastructure, public safety, and essential services – while operating under a truly balanced budget.  Noting that many of the challenges the city faces have been building for years, even decades as officials kicked the can down the road to future decision makers, Travis vowed to be a strong voice against improper government authority or misuse of taxpayer dollars.

“After more than 20 years of experience in District G effectively representing and fighting for clients, I’m ready to put my experience fighting for those I represent to work as a strong advocate for taxpayers and neighborhoods,” added Travis.

Greg Travis is a property owner and resident of Village Place and maintains his law office nearby in the district.  He has lived in Houston since his graduation from the University of Texas School of Law where he was Notes Editor for the Texas Law Review.  Greg is an accomplished attorney with The Travis Law Firm, P.C. and has earned a reputation as an intelligent, diligent and creative advocate for his clients, never having lost a trial in his 23 years of practice.  Greg is campaigning to put these qualities, as well as the jet pilot training he received as a United States Air Force officer, to work effectively representing the citizens of District G.

Active in our community, Greg used his legal training and business acumen to teach Business Law at Houston Community College.  He has been a member of Justice for All, a group dedicated to criminal justice reform, served as its Membership Director and also served on its Board of Directors alongside our current Governor, Greg Abbott.  Greg has served as an instructor and coach for Depelchin Children’s Center and volunteers for Chain Reaction Ministries which provides bicycles for those who need them. Greg is a member of Mensa, Gulf Coast Mensa and St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Houston City Council District G spans west Houston from Highway 6 on the west to Shepherd Drive on the east, I-10 on the north and Westheimer and Highway 59 on the south.  Due to term limits, the seat will be open on the November 2015 ballot.
